HS - How do I add 'Make-up' air to meet the local building code?

In some parts of the country the authorities with jurisdiction control will require air to be brought in from outside.

The H-Series, vent-free fireplaces are designed to use oxygen from the room in which it is installed.   Newly constructed 'tight' houses can also benefit by using the Air Shutter.

Some building code jurisdictions require that outside or "make-up" air be provided when installing this type of fireplace.   This requirement can be satisfied by the proper installation of an outside air source via duct work (not provided).  Connection to an outside air source is made via an optional Air Shutter Kit.

The Air Shutter kit itself can be installed into one of 2 knock-out panels on either side of the fireplace chassis.

One knock-out panel is typically used to bring the gas line into the appliance.  Determine which side the gas line will come in from before installing.

Once installed, the Air shutter is can be adjusted for the best flame performance.

An Air Shutter Kit (HVF-SA-ASK-01) is available for the H Series Vent Free Gas fireplace.

The suitability of any particular air source ducting system must be made by the installer.

Please confirm the installation requirements with your local inspector prior to ordering and installing the Air Shutter Kit.

For more information and installation instructions please refer to the HVF Installation Manual.
