To begin:

1. Remove the front glass and/or side glass panels.

2. Remove logs, chips and embers from the heart tray.

3. Remove the screws on either side of the hearth tray and set aside.

4. Carefully pull the hearth tray up and out of the unit. Be sure to check for any wired connections on the tray and disconnect as needed to fully remove the tray.

5. Use the Suction cup to remove the rear glass reflective panel. Install the suction cup on the glass, gently lift the glass up, then tilt it in towards you from the bottom and slowly pull it towards you to remove it.

6. Remove the effects screen (directly behind the back glass) by looping your fingers under the frame where the back glass was sitting and push the bottom of the effects screen towards you. Then pull it out and note that there is a difference between the top and bottom. Pay attention to the position to assure you re-install it properly.

You will now see the flames exposed. (video shows this below)

For a flame adjustment: see below video

To replace the flame:

1) Remove the damaged flame ribbon by peeling the ribbons top and bottom off of the sticky mount.

2) Carefully install the new ribbon. Make sure the ribbon has proper motion before sticking it onto the sticky surface mount. (see video above as reference)

3) Adjust the tension of the ribbon until you see the desired effect and install the top end back onto the sticky surface mount. If the ribbon is not moving properly or you do not like the placement of the ribbon, very carefully peel it back off of the sticky mount make the adjustment and reinstall. It is normal for the ribbon to stretch when peeling it off. Just try not to stretch/damage the viewable parts.

4)  Install the effects screen and inspect the flames. (Sometimes the flames lose their proper motion). If this is the case, you'll need to re-adjust the ribbon tension. It is trial and error to dial it in.

5) Once all of the ribbons have been replaced, re-install everything up to this point by following the previous steps backwards. Make sure to clean fingerprints off of the glass with Windex or another glass cleaner.
