FCS - How do I install the Pax Focus with a natural gas burner

The Paxfocus is a wood burning fireplace that that can be modified for use with a European Home gas burner.

Installing the fireplace begins with installing the support collar against the ceiling and wall below the opening for the class A pipe above:

Align the centerline of the wall plate with the centerline of the support collar prior to installing the wall plate. The gas line will need to be installed prior to installing the plate per the dimensions below:

The wall plate is designed to carry most of the weight of the hearth and the flue pipe, while the support collar keeps the flue pipe aligned with the class A pipe above the ceiling.

Before installing the hearth you will need to cut a hole in back of the hearth to accept the gas line.  A Sawzall tool with a metal cutting blade will be needed to cut this hole.  You may need to drill a couple starter holes with a metal cutting drill bit to get the Sawzall blade in.

The hearth and the flue pipe needs to be installed at the same time so that you can fit the flue into the support collar.  Having 2 or 3 strong backs on hand would be helpful:

Once the hearth and flue are installed, you can insert the gas burner and connect it to the gas line at the back of the hearth:

Now install the burner cover over the gas burner.  It may take a couple of tries to center it correctly. There is a small panel with a hole in it for access to the gas valve.  (Heat shield must be removed)

Them media can now be installed.  Start by placing the logs on the burner / burner cover so that it is pleasing to the eye.  There is no right or wrong way to install these.  The wood 'chips' (grey and black) can be splayed around the logs and on the burner as below:

The final product should look something like this:
